The First Thing People Say When I Tell Them I’m a Therapist

When I tell people I’m a therapist, I usually get one of two responses. Either they laugh nervously and say, “Oh no, are you analyzing me right now?” or they lean in and whisper, “Can I ask you a quick question?”

Both make me laugh. Here’s the truth: I don’t “analyze” people in everyday conversations. And no, I don’t have a magic trick for solving problems in 30 seconds at the grocery store.

Therapy isn’t about quick fixes—it’s about real, meaningful conversations. It’s about creating space where you don’t have to pretend everything’s fine. And that’s why people are often so curious—because deep down, we all crave that space.

👉 If you’ve been curious about therapy, maybe it’s time to give yourself that gift.
